SCAYLE, DIGIS3 member, embarks on its most ambitious phase with expansion of computing capacity and construction of new headquarters

The Castilla y León Supercomputing Centre Foundation, SCAYLE, is facing a new phase marked by the change of the person in charge of it, as well as by the beginning of the construction of its future headquarters, which will be ‘one of the centre's main challenges in the coming months', as the Regional Minister María González Corral pointed out. The Councillor for Mobility and Digital Transformation recently visited the current facilities, located in the CRAI-TIC building housed at the University of León Vegazana Campus.

The Councillor took advantage of her visit to introduce the new Director General of SCAYLE, Hilde Pérez, ‘who is taking the reins of the centre' after her predecessor, Vicente Matellán, whom she thanked for the work he has done over the years to promote the centre. Pérez, whose appointment was announced at the last Governing Council last February, holds a PhD in Industrial Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, she is a Professor at the University of León and has been the Director of the Department of Mechanical, Computer and Aerospace Engineering from 2015 to 2023.

The Councillor announced the upcoming construction of the new building and reminded that the building will be located on Profesor Gaspar Morocho Street, next to the Integrated Centre for Industrial Technological Vocational Training of León, and will house, among other services, the new Data Processing Centre (CPD) or the Caléndula supercomputer. Specifically, the proposed building, which will be built by combining reinforced concrete and laminated steel structures on a single floor, is made up of two prisms joined by a covered space that serves as access. The first prism, located to the north of the plot, includes the office area and related spaces, such as toilets, meeting rooms and training rooms. The second prism, located to the south, contains the computer rooms and all the necessary technical facilities. The central area linking the two prisms serves as an entrance and distributor of the building and also as a multi-purpose area or conference area.
