SCAYLE, a member of DIGIS3, concludes 2024 with increased investment and collaborative projects with other entities

On 20th December, the board of trustees of the Castilla y León Supercomputing Centre (SCAYLE) convened to review the activities of 2024. Chaired by José Luis Sanz Merino, the Regional Councilor for Mobility and Digital Transformation of the Junta de Castilla y León, the meeting showcased an investment exceeding €14 million. This investment has been driven by the enhanced computing power of the Caléndula supercomputer, alongside increased storage capacity and regional network bandwidth.

The board also approved SCAYLE’s 2025 budget, setting the stage for a landmark year marked by the ongoing construction of the organisation's new headquarters. This facility will serve as a key hub for SCAYLE’s continued growth and development. The construction has a timeline of 18 months, with completion anticipated in the closing months of 2025. Earlier, the Executive Committee approved the candidates selected for the development of the CINDIRELLA and HOT projects, focused on researching new technologies to foster a national industry for autonomous robotic solutions.

Founded in 2008 by the Junta de Castilla y León and the University of León, SCAYLE’s primary aim is to enhance the research capabilities of universities, research centres, and businesses in the region. It provides an excellent environment for intensive computing, communications, and advanced services, supporting fields such as meteorology, vehicle design, genetics, wildfire prediction, pharmaceutical development, and artificial intelligence.
