Sell on social media: how to create your store on Instagram and Facebook to transform your business

Tue, 10 Jun 2025

Social media is no longer just a communication channel; it has become a real business platform. Facebook and Instagram offer specific features that allow small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to create online shops, display products visually, interact with potential customers and facilitate direct sales, all without the need for their own website.

These solutions represent a great opportunity for companies that want to begin their digitalisation process quickly, without requiring advanced technical knowledge or large investments. The ability to integrate communication, promotion, customer service, and sales conversion in the same environment facilitates business management and improves competitiveness.

Why is this important for SMEs in Castile and León?

Companies located in rural areas can particularly benefit from these tools. Social media shops allow you to:

1. Reach new audiences without high costs.

2. Increase the visibility of products or services.

3. Build customer loyalty with personalised messages.

4. Offer a direct and accessible shopping experience.

What do you need to activate your shop on Instagram or Facebook?

Prerequisites

•    Comply with Meta's commercial policies: Only physical products permitted by the platform can be sold.

•    Have your own website or use the integrated shopping system (if available in your country).

•    Have a professional Instagram account and a Facebook page, linked to each other.

•    Create a product catalogue through Meta Commerce Manager or platforms such as Shopify or WooCommerce.

Steps to activate the store

•    Set up Business Manager

Go to Meta Business Suite: create or select your business account and make sure you have administrator permissions.

•    Link your Facebook page to Instagram: do this from Business Manager or Account Centre.

• Create the product catalogue: upload products manually, via a data feed, or connect your e-commerce platform.

• Set up your shop in Commerce Manager: choose the catalogue, select the payment method (on your website or on Meta, if available) and complete the business information. Submit the shop for review:

Meta will review and approve the shop within 1 to 5 business days.
