Case Study: Laboratorio Geométrico SL (WINKLE) and its path to Digital Transformation with Change2Twin

In the European innovation ecosystem, programmes such as Change2Twin are enabling SMEs to advance in the adoption of key Industry 4.0 technologies. One of the most prominent cases is that of Laboratorio Geométrico SL (WINKLE), a Spanish company specialising in the manufacture of filaments for 3D printing. In collaboration with the Digital Innovation Hub Industry 4.0 (DIHBU) and with support from DIGIS3, WINKLE embarked on a maturity assessment to explore the feasibility of implementing a digital twin in its production processes.

WINKLE teamed up with our partner DIHBU - Digital Innovation Hub Industry 4.0, as a Change2Twin accredited entity. DIHBU was in charge of carrying out the maturity assessment of WINKLE, with the support of ITCL in the outsourcing of technical services. Through this collaboration, WINKLE was able to define a strategy for the design of its digital twin, aligned with its vision of integrating an IoT system into its production lines. This system will be ready to grow with the company, enabling real-time monitoring and analysis of manufacturing processes.

By working together with our member DIHBU, WINKLE has already taken the first steps towards implementing an IoT system in its production lines. This system is the basis for the future development of a holistic digital twin that will not only simulate, but also monitor and adjust processes in real time, anticipating and correcting possible deviations in product quality.
